Mr Debs and I have a long-standing tradition of going to see basically every animated kids’ film going (usually we’re some the very few people without actual children accompanying us!) and The Lego Batman Movie was certainly no exception to that. I loved The Lego Movie and fully expected to love The Lego Batman Movie – I wasn’t wrong, so decided to give it a quick write-up.
(I’d also like to take a side note here to say that I also loved the fact that Batman and Robin were played by Will Arnett and Michael Cera, for the Arrested-Development-ness alone, although I did think they’re both great at the parts.)
It was hilarious! Genuinely think I spent the first 20-30 mins chuckling at various little things and there were loads of proper laugh out loud moments. The humour is very clever as with the Lego Movie, with references for the adults that a lot of kids wouldn’t get, but without being rude/dodgy (I hate that kind of thing in kids’ films!!!)
What a cast as well! Besides the people I already mentioned, the voice actors included Rosario Dawson, Mariah Carey, Ralph Fiennes, Eddie Izzard and Zach Galifianakis (very nearly spelt that right without having to look it up ahaha) among a host of other great peeps.
Batgirl is my absolute favourite from the Batman series (just ask Mr Debs how much I love her) and I never really think the portrayals of her onscreen do the character justice, with the exception of The Batman, because it’s probably my fave ever Batman thing. For that reason, I’d like to give the aforementioned Ms Dawson a special mention for doing a particularly excellent job there! Batgirl was fierce, strong and powerful but still compassionate – everything I would want from a Batgirl! Additionally, from a diversity point of view, it was really nice to see a non-white Batgirl 🙂
Til next time,
